British workers are being presented with the chance to shape up by a new Weight Watchers workplace health scheme.

As companies are become more inclined to offer their staff health incentives, Weight Watchers is making the programme available to those sitting at desks all day.

Features of the scheme include weigh-ins, advice meetings and help on maintaining weight loss.

Senior vice president of Weight Watchers UK Mads Ryder commented: "For the employer it will help cut healthcare costs and cut down on the number of days staff are off sick and I don't think employees will have a problem with taking part."

He also said he anticipates around 500 businesses to subscribe to the scheme.

Mr Ryder himself lost 26 pounds by taking part in the course last year.

A poll this week conducted by Bupa found that over half of UK workers want their employers to take more responsibility for their health.
